Bodyworks Celebrates 5 Years in Palm Springs

Local Physical Therapy Clinic to Hold Open House and Celebration Feb. 18

PALM SPRINGS – January 26, 2010: This February, Bodyworks Physiotherapy Clinic will celebrate 5 years since the local business opened in Palm Springs to provide “the most effective physical therapy in the desert.” Bodyworks will celebrate its anniversary by holding an open house from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 18, at its location at 333 N. Palm Canyon Drive, Suite 114 (at the Amado Center).

“I’m very proud we’ve made it to 5 years in the desert,” said David Wilson, Founder and Clinical Director of Bodyworks. “It’s been a great deal of work – very fulfilling work – because we’ve helped a lot of people regain their strength to either avoid surgery or recover from serious injuries. I’m very happy with Bodyworks because I can directly control the standard of care, and affect real healing, which isn’t always possible in traditional hospital settings.”

Wilson was trained in England and has been treating patients for more than twenty-five years. His interest in back pain, joint care, and sports injuries led him to study with and be certified by the Cyriax Foundation, a world-renowned organization for the practice of orthopaedic medicine. He moved to the desert in 1991, where he worked at Eisenhower Medical Center, and later, Desert Regional Medical Center, before creating Bodyworks.

Many of the patients at Bodyworks seek help to avoid surgical procedures. Wilson adds, “Our biggest caseload is seeing patients who are trying to avoid surgery. With the proper course of care, we can effectively treat rotator cuff injuries, low back and neck/disc injuries, and arthritic hips and knees - in many cases avoiding or at least delaying surgical intervention.”

Wilson says of his approach “Unlike many physical therapy clinics, we stay away from passive modalities (such as hot packs and massage), which are little more than spa treatments. Those may feel nice, but they do not address the root cause of the problem. Once a patient understands their condition, they can take steps to correct it. This gives them valuable information, so that they not only heal faster, but they can prevent further problems in the future. Their treatment is not passive, and the patient is a fundamental part of their recovery.”

In the past five years, Bodyworks has grown to become a well-known establishment in the local healthcare landscape. The clinic relies primarily on word-of-mouth recommendations that have come from former patients, and referrals from many local doctors who have trusted Bodyworks with their patients and have also been patients themselves.

The special open house and anniversary celebration on February 18 will include tours of the offices and clinical areas, as well as light refreshments.

“We expanded our clinic last year, taking over the space just next door to our initial clinic site” said Wilson. “So we thought it would be nice to have an open house to celebrate the anniversary and allow our patients, local doctors, and the public to see the new facility.” The new clinic is more than twice the size of the original location, and will accommodate growth, including the addition of more staff.

Wilson hopes the next five years will see continued success. “We’re looking for another physical therapist to join the practice, and we’ll continue effectively treating our patients so they can return to the activities and lifestyle they enjoyed before their injuries. As the healthcare industry changes, I think we’ll see more focus on results-based therapies, and that’s Bodyworks key strength.”
